Summerlin Academy now uses the space and is named after the historic school. Though dwarfed by other county towns, especially Lakeland and Winter Haven, in population, prominence, and notoriety, Bartow has maintained its small-town heritage and distinctive Southern culture. With the annexation of 18,000 acres (73 km2) of former phosphate mining land owned by Clear Springs Land Company, Bartow's population is projected to increase to more than 25,000 by 2025 and more than 45,000 by 2030.
