Coxs Creek is an unincorporated community on US Route 31E/150 (known locally as Louisville Road) in Nelson County, Kentucky, United States, 4 1/2 miles north of the county seat of Bardstown. It is named after Colonel Isaac Cox of Pennsylvania, who built a 'fort' (actually an 'old-fashioned log cabin') on the site in April 1775 before fighting in the American Revolutionary War with the help of his brother James. The land actually belonged to his father (David Cox), but David returned to Virginia before cultivating it. More than just a station, Cox's 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) was the first pioneer station in Nelson County. Isaac Cox later became the last white man to be killed by Native Americans during the Great Indian Wars in what would become Kentucky. The Second Kentucky Baptist Fraternity was organized on Coxs Creek on October 29, 1785. The community's first post office was established on November 28, 1856 with a descendant of Isaac Cox, John C. Cox, the first Master of Job. At the time of the car, the post office and adjacent store blocked the view of oncoming traffic on US-31, forcing the Kentucky Department of Highways to order the post office to be relocated from Coxs Creek Junction between US-31E /US-150 and the State of Kentucky.
