Teaneck (/tichnk/) is a community in Bergen County, New Jersey. It is a one bedroom community in the New York area. At the 2010 United States Census, the township population was 39,776, an increase of 516 (+1.3%) over 39,260 at the 2000 Census, an increase of 1,435 (+3.8%) over to 37,825 counted in the 1990 census In 2010, it was the second largest of Bergen County's 70 communities, behind Hackensack with 43,010 residents. Teaneck was incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 19, 1895 from portions of Englewood Township and Ridgefield Township, both now extinct (despite existing communities with similar names), and portions of Bogot and Leonia. . Independence followed the result of a referendum on January 14, 1895, in which voters approved incorporation by a majority of 46 to 7. which plagued Bergen County at the time. On May 3, 1921 and again on June 1, 1926, parts of old Teaneck were moved to Overpeck Township. Teaneck is located at the intersection of Interstate 95 and the eastern terminus of Interstate 80. The community is divided north and south by Highway 4 and east and west by the CSX River Subdivision Transportation. Commercial development is concentrated in four major business districts: Cedar Lane, Teaneck Road, DeGraw Avenues and West Englewood Avenues, and Queen Anne Road, better known as 'The Plaza'. Teaneck's location at the crossroads of rivers, roads, railroads, and other geographic features has made it the site of many significant events over the centuries.
