Other ranches also include Chase Ranch (famous for its heart-shaped sign and said to be the birthplace of the Marlboro Man), Ted Turner's Vermejo Park Ranch, CS Ranch, Express UU Bar Ranch (formerly owned by Waite Phillips) and Western Singers-Ranch. Clearview Ranch by composer R.W. Hampton, as well as many other small ranches. Elliott Barker State Natural Reserve, the Valle Vidal Unit of Carson National Forest, and Cimarron Canyon State Park are also in the Cimarron area. Seventeen miles or 28 miles northeast is Dawson, New Mexico, a ghost town of more than 9,000 people in the early 20th century, and the Raton Municipal Airport.
