Corinne is an unincorporated community in southern Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, USA, 30 km east of Antlers. Using Oklahoma's public survey system, the community is located at T22-4S-R19E. A United States Post Office opened in Corinne, Indian Territory on August 24, 1904, and operated until September 30, 1958. It was named for Corinne Estill Lesueur, a local resident. Corinne, the daughter of Captain Alexander A. Lesueur, the first promoter of Antlers, later moved to Antlers and served as an officer with Citizens National Bank. The bank later became First National Bank and, decades later, FirstBank. It continues to operate in the building where Corinne Lesueur worked. Captain Lesueur, Corinne's father, was a prominent military officer during the Civil War and served in the Confederate Missouri Army. He served as Missouri's Secretary of State in the postwar years before joining the Antlers. Corinne was founded in the waning days of Indian Territory and was located in Cedar County, part of the Apukshunnubbee District of the Choctaw Nation. Its county seat, Sulfur Springs, Choctaw Nation, was near what is now Rattan Township. After Oklahoma statehood and Pushmataha County was formed on November 16, 1907, Corinne was the scene of the first murder in the new county. Alfred Holman was killed after a relative got into a fight with brothers Solomon Nihka and Bob Nihka, both Choctaw Indians who were also Snake Indians. The Serpent Indians resisted, sometimes violently, the state. The Nihka brothers, as was the Choctaw custom, turned themselves in to the judiciary after being indicted. More information about Corinne can be found at the Pushmataha County Historical Society.
