Dela is an unincorporated community in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, USA, six miles southeast of Antlers. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. A United States Post Office operated here from May 12, 1920 to October 31, 1954. The post office and community were named after Dela M. Whitaker, a local teacher. Dela was originally known as the White Church, or Itissa Busha in the Choctaw language, after a Methodist church built by a white settler for the Choctaw Indians. The date of its construction is unknown, but it predates the settlement of nearby Antler in 1886; The earliest grave in his cemetery dates from 1883. When it was built, it was located in what was then Cedar County, part of the Apukshunnubbee District of the Choctaw Nation. In the early 1870s, Colonel Victor M. Locke established a thriving business, mill and cotton gin at White Church on White Creek. The National Choctaw Council named the settlement 'Lockestown', at least to identify it as an official Choctaw constituency. Locke moved from White Church to Beaver, as the Antlers was then called, in 1875. Logs for the Methodist church were shipped from Fort Towson for construction. They were whitewashed by the Choctaw, hence the name Itissa Busha, of the White Church. By the late 1930s, historical accounts indicated that the Choctaws, who once lived nearby and worshiped here, were dead and the church was no more. The church property was acquired by a white farmer who razed the building. His cemetery has been preserved as the Dela Burial Ground.
