Mifflinburg is a county in Union County in the Susquehanna River Valley in central Pennsylvania. Mifflinburg was first settled in 1792 by Elias and Catharina Jungman (Youngman) and their two sons. They divided the land into 60-by-120-foot parcels that were sold to other adventurous settlers, many of whom were German, and the town of Youngmanstown was born. A few years later, after George's death, George Rote (Rhoade) founded a town east of Youngmanstown known as Greenville or Rotestown. Eventually the two settlements merged into Third Street. In 1827 the two cities were merged and incorporated. The unified village was named Mifflinburg, after Thomas Mifflin, Pennsylvania's first governor under the 1790 constitution.
