Red Shirt (Lakota: gle or gle lta) is a small unincorporated Oglala Lakota village southeast of Hermosa in Oglala Lakota County, South Dakota, United States. It is located on the Pine Ridge Reservation just outside Badlands National Park. Red Shirt is just beyond the eastern terminus of SD 40, which becomes BIA Highway 41 at the Cheyenne River Bridge (the border between Custer County and Oglala Lakota County and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation). The community's built-up area, including , is located in the Cheyenne River Valley lowlands below the north end of the Red Shirt Table, a prominent feature of the northwest Oglala Lakota County landscape. Red Shirt, like many Oglala and Lakota communities, is named after Chief Red Shirt (gle Lta, c. 1845-1925), whose group settled the area in the late 1870s. As of 2009, the village consisted of approximately 23 houses (including mobile homes) in two groups (upper and lower red shirt). Red Shirt School (both the modern school (built 2005-2008) with two large domes and the old school buildings), a dance floor, sports fields, several community buildings and a sewage treatment plant.
