Lucketts is an unincorporated historic village in Loudoun County, Virginia on US Route 15 north of Leesburg. It was originally known as the 'Black Swamp' due to the large number of black oaks that grew in the area when it was settled. From the late 18th century to the mid-19th century, it was known as 'Goresville' after a prominent local landowner, Thomas Gore. The name was finally changed to Lucketts in 1865. The town's Lucketts School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lucketts is located approximately 7 miles north of Leesburg and 18 miles south of Frederick, Maryland. The Potomac River is between Lucketts and Frederick, approximately 4 miles north on Route 15. The MARC commuter train makes frequent stops on the Maryland side at Point of Rocks. Freight train whistles can often be heard throughout Lucketts at night and at dawn. The city of Lucketts is visually identified by the traffic light at the intersection of Route 15, Lucketts Road and Stumptown Road. There are antique shops, a gas station, a few condos and trailer parks, a fire station, and a cell phone tower. Lucketts School, now Lucketts Community Center, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Traffic through Lucketts on Highway 15 was approximately 18,000-21,000 vehicles per day in 2005. Lucketts is known for its annual fair in August, which features crafts, groceries, and homemade ice cream sold by the PTA Elementary School. Housed in the original Lucketts Wooden Schoolhouse, the Lucketts Community Center offers daycare, preschool activities, adult activities and bluegrass concerts every Saturday night at 7pm. M. from October to April.
