Morven (sometimes spelled 'Moryen') is a rural unincorporated community in northwest Amelia County, south of the Appomattox River, United States. It is located at the intersection of SR 681 (Clementown Road) and SR 616 (S. Genito Road). The village was a post town, shown on some maps as Eanes (or Eenes) Crossroads in the mid 19th century. In the early 20th century, the post office is referred to as Morven. The area is now served by the post office 10 miles southeast of the county seat, Amelia Court House, ZIP code 23002. On April 5, 1865, in the closing days of the Civil War, while General Robert As E. Lee and his army continuing their retreat westward, Union troops intercepted and destroyed a Confederate wagon train that had just passed through Morven. The skirmish was one of the few, if not the only one involving black Confederate troops. Delivery to Ulysses S. Grant took place on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox. Morven School on Route 616 was one of a series of school properties in Amelia County that were put up for sale in the 1960s after desegregation. While all of the advertised properties have a similar description and most are Rosenwald schools, it is unclear whether Morven School itself was a Rosenwald school. In the early 20th century, the Rosenwald School Project built thousands of facilities in the South, primarily for the education of African-American children. Existing historic structures in Morven include the Little Union Baptist Church (pictured), which is located on Route 681 just north of the intersection. Haw Branch Plantation, 4 miles east, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
