Davis Park is a village in the city of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is located on Fire Island, a barrier island separated from the south side of Long Island by the Great South Bay off the South Shore city of Patchogue. It is located within the Fire Island National Seashore. Davis Park is a waterfront community on Fire Island that serves as a destination for families and singles own, rent, boat and ferry enthusiasts. Davis Park is commonly used to refer to three contiguous areas of the village of Davis Park, namely Davis Park, Leja Beach and Ocean Ridge. The three areas share amenities and social life and are separated from other Fire Island communities. Technically, Davis Park refers to the commercial and public portion of the community on both sides of Trustees' Walk, as opposed to designated sections such as Leja Beach (west of Trustees Walk, bordering Center Walk to the north and south) and Ocean Ridge . . (known as far as Trustees Walk is to the east). Davis Park is Fire Island's easternmost private community (there were previously other communities to the east that were removed by the National Park Service after the creation of Fire Island National Seashore in 1964, including Bayberry Dunes, Whalehouse Point, and Long Cove) . The municipality covers a beach length of about 1.25 km and is about 330 meters (0.3 km) wide at its widest point and about 190 meters (0.17 km) at its narrowest point (from the dune to the bay ) in width, excluding the width of the sea beach). Davis Park is bordered on the east and west by vast wilderness areas. The National Park Service's Watch Hill facility (with a small marina, restaurant, campground, nature trail, and seasonal tours and activities) is about 0.5 miles east, and Water Island (a community, not a separate island) is about 1 mile (1.6 km) to the west. Davis Park is located approximately 13.9 miles (22.3 km) from the eastern end of Fire Island at Moriches Inlet and 16.3 miles (26.3 km) from the western end of Fire Island at Democrat Point (in the State Park Robert Moses). The United States Post Office at Davis Park (open July and August only) is located approximately 404104N 730015W / 40.68444N 73.00417W/ 40.68444N 73.00417W To get to Davis Park you must travel by boat. A ferry (seasonal, mid-March to late November) operates at Sandspit Park in Patchogue on the Long Island mainland, crossing the Great South Bay in about 15 to 20 minutes. Davis Park has approximately 350 homes (130 in Ocean Ridge and 220 in Davis Park), a general store and grill, a restaurant, and a bar. The restaurant and bar are the only ones on Fire Island with unobstructed views of the bay and ocean. There is a dirt road commonly known as Burma Road and boardwalks. No cars (except for emergency, utility and construction vehicles and a very limited number of private vehicles, which are only permitted under a strictly regulated National Park Service permit process). There are no street lights except in the marina area, so you can stargaze at night. The Town of Brookhaven has a public marina, a patrolled stretch of beach (seasonal), and public restrooms and showers. Davis Park is protected by volunteers from the Davis Park Fire Department and Suffolk County Police. The Davis Park Medical Association, a non-profit organization, owns a home, 'Bedside Manor,' on Ocean Ridge Dune, which is rented seasonally to doctors and nurses at below-market rates in exchange for their agreement to provide essential services.
