Lake George is an unincorporated community in Lincoln Township, County Clare, Michigan, United States. It was a station on the Toledo, Ann Arbor and North Michigan Railroad. Winfield Scott Gerrish is credited with revolutionizing Michigan logging by building a seven-mile logging railroad from Lake George to the Muskegon River in County Clare. The area is mostly forested and home to a variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, pheasants, and other game birds. Fishing is very popular in the area as there are many lakes (10 in a 10 mile radius) that are home to largemouth bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, squash, northern pike, jumbo, catfish, and smallmouth bass. The population of the region is quite mixed. It is mainly made up of the original pioneer families and the tourists who stay there during the summer season. There are very few jobs in the region and workers travel to the Midland Region to find work. The place has a great bar (the Swiss Inn), a restaurant and some small shops; the grocery store in Lake George and the new warehouse. There was an old train depot (no longer in existence) where two trains collided on July 19, 1925 (https://web.archive.org/web/20101216012515/http://michiganrailroads.com/RRHX/Wrecks/ICCReports/ AARR-LacGeorgeMI-1925.pdf). The current 'Depot' party store was originally built in 1937 by John Seats Sr. The Post Office was also located in the grocery store, operated by Lula Seats. The business was owned by the Seats family until 1973 and three generations of the family have worked there over the years.
