Centralia is an unincorporated community in Craig County, Oklahoma, USA Said to be founded by JH Hargrove in 1898 and named after Centralia, Missouri. Between 1907 and 1915 the city prospered before suffering a long decline. Today it is considered a ghost town. The Post Office opened on April 11, 1899 with Hargrove as the first postmaster. Several stores opened over the next two years. Most of them were housed in wooden buildings built around a town square. Most of the business district was destroyed in a fire on January 11, 1907. Another fire on July 22, 1917 destroyed about a third of the district. In 1915, the population peaked at 750. Two banks operated in the town until both failed around 1929. A combination of fires, the Great Depression, and the failure of the Vinita to Coffeyville railroad project led to large-scale abandonment of Centralia. In the 1980 census, 43 neighbors were recorded. In 2010, only seven or eight residents lived in the 74301 ZIP code.
